Last to last Sunday, I went to Jhanvi Shah’s birthday party. Jhanvi Shah is a friend of mine from L’ecole Montessori, the school I go to every morning. Since Mummy had gone to college for studying, it fell upon Papa to take me to the party.
When we reached the party (at 430 pm instead of 4 pm), I realized that we were the first guests. If we had actually arrived on time, we might have been the first (even before Jhanvi and her family).
Jhanvi’s Mom saw me enter and said – “Hello Keshav. How are you? Please come in."
She also thanked Papa for coming.
Papa saw Jhanvi and told me to hop along, wish her and give her the gift. Jhanvi was looking rather pretty in a pink colour dress and had done up her hair very nicely.
There was a tattoo girl sitting in a corner. Jhanvi’s mummy took me to her for a tattoo. I told her to paint a spiderman for me. She did it pretty well and I thanked her for it.
Soon after, Jhanvi went for a tattoo. She also got a spiderman done on one hand. Ha Ha!! She had clearly seen mine and wanted to copy me. Infact, a lot of my friends who came in thereafter also got spiderman tattoos. I was feeling nice for being such a trendsetter.
I looked around a bit and saw a couple of games – the fishing game and the shooting game. I didn't think I had much of a fancy for them (more like I thought I really wouldn't be able to play them). Anyways, I took Papa’s help and played the games (read – I made him hold my hand and play).
Thereafter I promptly went and sat on a chair.
Soon, the music started. They played Aarushi's favourite song - "कैसे बताएं क्यूँ तुझ को चाहें (Kaise batayen Kyun tujh ko chahen)". I immediately told Papa about it. He told me to go and dance. I didn’t.
Jhanvi came and held out her hand and asked me to dance. I decided to act pricey and refused to budge from my seat. She was a bit disappointed and went ahead on her own. A few minutes later her Mom called out saying we should play ring-a-ring-a-roses. This time Jhanvi came and pulled me by the hand to play. I couldn't refuse!!
My friends started arriving thereafter. Aahan came, and then Rhea, Kartikeyan, Malcom and some others (whose names Papa does not know and I didn't bother telling him). Aahan came with his Mummy and Papa. Rhea came with her Mom. Malcom and Kartikeyan also came with their Moms. I went to play with Aahan and took his hand. However, he did not take my hand. So I came back to Papa.
There was one uncle who started talking on the microphone. He told all the babies to come ahead with their Mummys. Since Mummy had not come, I went ahead with Papa. They uncle played some music and made everyone do the hokey pokey dance and the birdie dance. It was somewhat fun. Then the uncle started playing some games. They made us walk round and round and made the Mummy/Papa’s pick up the babies or kiss them or hug them. Everytime he told some people that they were out. I don't know why.
While everyone was playing the game, I saw some lines on the floor and I started walking on them. The people went round and round in the circle but I would just keep following the lines. Papa tried holding my hand and getting me back. But I just kept walking on the lines. Then Papa also started walking with me and tickling me. We had a lot of fun :)
After some time I got hungry. The uncle was still playing some game with the uncles and aunties. I wished he would stop so we could get the cake.
Papa got me some French fries. I asked him for some sauce and he put some on a tissue paper and gave it to me. Rhea also sat next to me and started eating something. Soon the fries got over. I was still very hungry and asked Papa for more. He went to get me some more but found that they were finished. I still wanted them and kept pestering Papa for them. He asked the uncle to make some more and get for me. After some time the uncle got us a plate of fresh fries. It was very nice of him.
Soon after I had told myself that I was not going to get any cake, the music stopped. The cake was brought out and put in the center of the room. I promptly stood next to Jhanvi. I was going to take the knife and cut the cake. But Papa was looking at me with such a stern look that I realized it may not be such a good idea.
The cake was cut. Papa then got me some food and some cake on a plate. As always, I only wanted to eat the cake. However, Papa insisted that every bite of the cake had to be followed by a bit of rice or noodles. We finished the food. As we were to go home, Jhanvi’s Mom held us back for a group photograph. Somehow the camera-man managed to click the picture with all of us kids running and looking in different directions.
Finally we left for home. We collected the return gift and went back home. I got a lot of gifts at the party and the cake was also very nice. All in all it was fun.
